Ultrasound Testing

Ultrasound is defined as very high frequency sound waves that are not detectable by the human ear. By using special equipment, these sounds can be detected and analyzed.

WHAT CAN I DETECT?

BEARING WEAR
Ultrasound can be used to detect worn anti-friction bearings. Unlike vibration analysis, it does not have to be as close to the source because sound travels further then vibration.

LEAK DETECTION
It is useful for detection of air-borne noise caused by a leak of either pressure or a vacuum. It can also be used to detect a leak in an open vessel by using a sound generator.

ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS
When electricity escapes in high voltage, it jumps across a gap in an electrical connection. This causes a noise detected by ultra-sound.

INTERNAL LEAKS
It is useful to detect internal leaks such as steam traps, valves, or from one enclosed area to another.

LACK OF GREASE IN BEARINGS
It is a great tool for adding just the right amount of grease to a bearing.

DETECTION MISCELLANEOUS USES
Some applications where Ultra-sound can be beneficial are: underground leaks,  leakage behind walls,  and blockage in pipes.
